Bates Smart has announced two new Directors, who will be involved directly in the practice’s delivery of city-defining projects.

Mathieu Le Sueur and Karen Wong both joined the practice in 2012 and hold four decades of collective built environment experience. Well respected throughout the industry, the new Directors will be tasked with assisting in the design and delivery of Australia’s next great buildings and places.

Le Sueur is tasked with operating the practice’s Brisbane outpost after his recent relocation from Sydney.

Specialising in the winning and management of large scale, complex architectural projects, Le Sueur was a driving force in the design and delivery of 1 Denison in North Sydney and is deeply entrenched in a number of Sydney Metro over-station developments. Now located in Brisbane, Le Sueur is currently managing and growing client relationships and new projects in the river city.

Hong Kong native Karen Wong undertook her architecture studies in the UK, before taking up positions across Australia, the UK, Hong Kong, China and Vietnam. Bates Smart regards Wong as an all-rounder, working with large teams of clients, consultants, external stakeholders and Bates Smart employees.

Wong's recent projects include Hilton Melbourne and Collins House, and is currently involved in the design of a number of Melbourne build-to-rent developments.
