Lindy Johnson, a leader in the advancement of the architecture profession, has been rewarded for her extensive efforts by the Australian Institute of Architects’ Queensland Chapter, awarded the 2024 President's Prize.
Founder of the agency Lindy Johnson Creative, Johnson boasts over three decades in marketing, publicity, media and business development experience. The agency, which celebrated its tenth year of operation in 2023, has a number of clients across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
Johnson was formerly the QLD State Government Senior Arts Advisor and Director of the state’s Creative Industries Unit. Her work in both roles championed the work of built environment professionals, namely through the HEAT Architecture initiative, launched globally at the 2008 Venice Architecture Biennale, which showcased Queensland architecture to the world.
"Lindy often goes far beyond her commercial remit, lending her personal passion to the advancement of architects and architecture,” says the AIA’s outgoing Queensland Chapter President, Amy Degenhart.
“A recent example was her pro-bono participation in discussions that inspired the Institute to host Carol Ross Barney, the 2023 USA Gold Medal Architect, in Brisbane, fostering an international conversation of architectural excellence."
Johnson says she is delighted to have received the award, which she believes recognises the importance of communicating the power of design.
“I firmly believe that good design can solve many of the challenges our cities and communities face. For architects and designers to have a place at the table, they must be able to communicate their value clearly," she says.
"My team looks forward to continuing to work with the Institute and the whole profession to advocate for good design at every level."
Other President Prize recipients for 2024 include Brisbane Open House, and the Abedian School of Architecture at Bond University via Soheil Abedian AM and Paul Loh.
