Woods Bagot has announced Julieta Loya will join the practice as its new Regional Sustainability Consultant, which it hopes will boost its sustainability credentials and Global Impact strategy.
Working across Australian and New Zealand projects in all sectors, Loya will be tasked with crafting internal strategies to ensure sustainability targets are met, working alongside Woods Bagot team members and externally with clients to communicate the capabilities of the team.
“I was drawn to Woods Bagot for its beautiful, timeless designs,” Loya says.
“Beauty is a key part of sustainability: the better a design is, the more likely we are to want to preserve and cherish it.”
“It’s a big endeavour, but I’m lucky to be part of an open, enthusiastic and supportive team at Woods Bagot. I’m looking forward to the possibilities.”
Born in Mexico, Loya completed her Bachelor of Architecture in Mexico City, before gaining a Master in Architectural Science (Sustainable Design) from the University of Sydney and a diploma in biomimicry at Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City.
Working previously as a Regenerative Design Advisor at Mott MacDonald, Loya has also worked at UNSW and USYD as an Academic Tutor. Loya is passionate about permaculture, biophilic design, biomimicry, and incorporating First Nations knowledge into modern construction methods to advocate for an ecocentric approach.
Loya says her time working alongside leaders within Regenesis Group has equipped her with the tools required to oversee regenerative development.
“Regenesis has pioneered the regenerative development movement for over twenty-five years in many fields, including the built environment,” she says.
“They have paved the way for the next generation of regenerators through generous knowledge-sharing and trailblazing in integrative design and living systems thinking.”
Loya will be working closely with Woods Bagot’s Global Sustainability Leader Russell Fortmeyer to strengthen the practice’s sustainability credentials. Fortmeyer is excited by Loya’s addition.
“Julieta further expands our design-led sustainability practice within Woods Bagot and, importantly, allows us to better serve our projects and clients as they respond to the climate crisis and increasingly ambitious regulatory demands,” he says.
“Having her embedded within our existing design culture and on individual projects will bring a sustainable perspective to our work from the start, and we know that this is critical for delivering both high performance and value to our clients.”
