Architect Michael McShanag has been promoted to the role of director at Plus Architecture’s Brisbane and Gold Coast studios.
Specialising in project management and delivery, McShanag brings 20 years of experience as a strategic and creative thinker to the role, having led multi-million-dollar design projects spanning the government, residential, commercial and education sectors. He will co-lead the teams alongside director Danny Juric.
Working on sites in Australia and internationally, McShanag has developed a broad range of skills that span project programming and management, team leadership as well as building information modelling and construction documentation and detailing.
As development in Queensland ramps up ahead of the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games, Plus Architecture is set to play a pivotal role, partnering with government and industry to design and deliver significant legacy infrastructure and placemaking projects.
“Michael has a track-record of delivering exceptional results. Harnessing excellent communication skills and design acumen, he is primed to nurture industry partnerships and deliver the highest level of service and outcomes for our clients,” Juric says.
Commenting on his new role at Plus Architecture, McShanag says, “Going far beyond aesthetics, good design encompasses functionality, sustainability, user-experience, as well as consideration of the local context, the project's cultural significance, and critically its economic viability. Through understanding the interplay of these elements and how they align with the unique objectives of each individual project, we are able to deliver buildings and spaces that both enrich the lives of their users, and that are financially sustainable for our clients.”
“Guiding our clients through every stage of the design and construction process, I work with all stakeholders, on the ground – liaising with contractors and other construction professionals to ensure that the design integrity of projects is maintained through to construction completion.”
With over 50 projects worth an estimated value of over $2 billion in the pipeline across Queensland, Plus Architecture is focusing on meeting the evolving needs of the state's rapidly growing population. As it enters new sectors spanning affordable housing, purpose-built student accommodation, senior living, tertiary education and commercial developments, McShanag’s promotion to director bolsters the studio’s position as one of the state’s fastest growing and most desirable architecture practices.
