NAWIC has this week announced that Christina Yiakkoupis has become the association’s new National Chair.
Yiakkoupis has been a Director on NAWIC’s board since July 2017, before she assumed the role of Vice Chair in November 2020. The new National Chair says she is excited by the new challenge, and is intent on making a difference for women in construction across the country.
“I am looking forward to working with each and every NAWIC volunteer, supporter and member so that together we can be loud and continue to help women be who they want to be in construction,” says Christina.
Current Director Samantha Woodward has been elected as Vice Chair. She says she is keen to help the association realise its long term goals.
“As the office bearers for NAWIC, Samantha and I are looking forward to working together with the Board to deliver on NAWIC’s mission of 25 percent by 2025 by engaging with each State Chapter, stakeholder and member to work through the actions required to realise our Strategic Plan”.
Former Chair, Kristine Scheul, will continue her work on the board as the National Advocacy Chair.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my role as Chair and have been honoured to have been elected by the board into the position these past 3 years,” says Scheul.
“I congratulate Christina on her elevation to the role of Chair and hope she receives the same level of support from our members that I had the pleasure of experiencing.”
“During my tenure I am very proud to have witnessed the growth of our organisation and the increased engagement and advocacy the organisation has been able to undertake with the support of organisations such as the Australian Construction Industry Forum, Australian Gender Equality Council, the Construction Industry Culture Taskforce and Government representatives at both State and Commonwealth level.”
