SJB has announced the appointment of Hamish Ginn (pictured above left) and Jack Gillmer (pictured above right) in a pair of new leadership roles that underpin the practice’s desire to foster a deeper connection to Country.

Ginn has been promoted to Senior Associate, People and Culture Specialist, while Gillmer has been elevated to Associate, First Nations Lead. The practice believes that now is the time to strengthen ties to the Indigenous community and environment, as well as nurturing the professional and personal development of its team.

A proud Worimi-Biripi Guri man, Gillmer’s role will involve working with First Nations people on relevant projects, as well as developing frameworks and methodologies to establish processes that are respondent to Country.

“The duality of this position reflects the responsibilities that exist for me both culturally and within the built environment. It is an acknowledgement of our cultural obligation to care for Country in the work we do as design practitioners.” Gillmer says.

“The intersection of cultural knowledge and the urban fabric is a space of endless potential. I‘m excited about the opportunities this will provide at SJB, enabling us to collectively strive for the empowerment and self-determination of our mobs.”

New Senior Associate, People and Culture Specialist Hamish Ginn will look to support the entire practice team with career advancement and personal development. This includes assisting new parents in navigating returning to work, and on site mental health support for our studio.

“This new role will strengthen the studio’s values and guiding principles, it’ll help sustain SJB’s profile as an employer that values studio culture and nurtures its staff,” Ginn says.

SJB Director John Pradel says the practice is intent on becoming a truly people-centric workplace.

“We constantly strive to enhance the culture and quality of work within our studio, and I am thrilled about how these appointments will promote the growth of our practice,” he says.

“We strongly believe in prioritising our people, making the wellbeing and development of our staff our top priority.

“SJB has always been an advocate for Voice in practice, and Jack’s appointment will only enhance this commitment to support Country, and further bring it into our work as designers.”
