The Bates Smart Award is offered to students who achieved the highest result for the Design Thesis subject.
“Congratulations Nina Nervegna and Felix Garner-Davis on winning the Winter 2024 Bates Smart Medal, Graduate Prize for Outstanding Design, University of Melbourne,” shares the Bates Smart team on LinkedIn.
The award is a one-off payment of $5,000 and a medal.
“Nina and Felix’s thesis project Limb deftly employ architectural ‘prosthetics’ to enrich the interplay between urban environments and their natural counterparts, showcasing a deep-rooted commitment to enhancing ecological and social fabrics through design,” say Bates Smart Studio Directors Claudia Fleuter and Johan Hermijanto.
To be considered for this award, the candidate must be enrolled in the Master of Architecture (single or combined) and have completed Design Thesis (ABPL90169) or its successor.
Shortlisted students will be contacted after thesis moderation. The students may be required to deliver a brief presentation of their work to the selection panel.
Eligible recipients will be assessed on the thesis that best demonstrates excellence in research and resolution.
In the event of a tie the award will be divided equally between the recipients.
