Grimshaw has announced Andrew Perez will lead the premier practice’s Melbourne outpost for the foreseeable future, elevated to the role of Managing Partner.

Joining the practice’s London studio in 2004, Perez made his way to Australia in 2015 and has remained a valuable member of Grimshaw’s Australian setup ever since. His expertise in the aviation sector has seen him deliver a number of pivotal projects at Melbourne International Airport, including the 2016 Master Plan, the new Melbourne Airport T2 Arrivals Hall Redevelopment and the current Elevated Road and Forecourt project.

“Assuming a new role in the studio in which I have worked alongside Neil Stonell to develop the talent, initiative and capacity of our people is a moment of great excitement,” Perez says.

“Grimshaw acknowledges that we collectively face incredible challenges to provide better thinking and better architecture for the world to help overcome its social and environmental issues. I am honoured to now guide the studio through the next stage of its development and to continue to support my fellow Australian and global partners.”

Perez has overseen the design processes of a number of airports located in the Americas, the UK and Europe. He is currently Partner-in-charge of the Auckland Airport Terminal Development Project. Perezhas also worked across other sectors in recent past, directing the design team for the Hobsons Bay Wetlands Centre project and the recently announced Twelve Apostles Visitor Experience Centre for the Victorian Government.

Nationally, Andrew has led work on the Brisbane Botanical Gardens Tropical Biome and the Perth Airport Property Master Plan, as well as the masterplanning of the Oman Botanic Garden in Muscat and two new buildings at University College London, underlining his international expertise.

“It has been a true pleasure to work with Andrew Perez over the past eight years and the practice has developed because of Andrew’s particular global expertise and experience,” says former Melbourne Managing Partner Neil Stonell, who will be involved in the practice’s foray into New Zealand.

“Andrew’s contribution to Grimshaw’s ability to deliver large scale projects in Australia is a direct result of his ability to share knowledge and mobilise our global networks to develop buildings which reflect our priorities to make architecture which benefits society and prioritises our commitment to a better future.

“I wish Andrew every success in his new role, and look forward to continuing to work alongside him across our region.”
