Arcadia has bolstered its growing Melbourne studio, with the landscape architecture firm announcing Jack Qian (pictured right) has joined the garden city outpost as its new Principal.

Qian will assist current Principal Nelson Gomes (pictured left) in growing the studio, as well as delivering high-calibre projects.

Arcadia Principal, Alex Longley, says he is excited by the acquisition of Qian and the potential for diverse future projects.

“After a decade of operation in Sydney and later Brisbane, the increasing level of Melbourne projects led us to officially establish there in early 2020,” he says.

“Having Jack join the team is a marker of the level of success Arcadia has achieved after only two years in Melbourne under Nelson’s leadership, with the team working across a range of projects in all sectors with a client base who are embracing our approach to designing with Country.

“Jack’s expertise in leading complex, large scale projects and teams both locally and internationally, will strengthen and diversify Arcadia’s capability, particularly across the public sector, environmental regeneration and urban design typologies.”

With 15 years of design leadership experience in both Australia and China, Qian has been involved in the delivery of a number of projects that have received critical acclaim in a multitude of sectors. He says he is excited to have joined the Melbourne studio and to continue in growing both the practice and industry advocacy.

“Melbourne is one of the most diverse and progressive cities for our industry in Australia with its rich mix of people, culture, and urban typology,” Qian says.

“This diversity and energy is reflected in the culture of our team and the high quality of work that’s emerged from our studios. I see tremendous potential to help grow and bring value and prosperity to the local market and beyond.”
