Carter Williamson has begun the month of April with a number of promotions to its senior leadership team, with a new Director, two Senior Associates and two Associates.
The practice has continued to go from strength to strength in the past few years, which has led to the promotions to ensure the team is adequately mentored.
“These promotions are a recognition of the great work of our people,” says Carter Williamson Principal Shaun Carter.
“I’ve always had the view that architecture is not created by one person, but by many great minds. It follows that all the people within Carter Williamson bring projects together, and those people need to be rightfully acknowledged.
“They’re not only skilled and talented, they’re wonderful people – decent, hardworking and they live by their values. As a result, they form terrific relationships with our clients, contractors and consultants.”
The practice has a number of residential, public and commercial projects in the works in 2022.
“For the past 18 years, we’ve been growing in confidence, growing in execution… growing in every part of our business,” Carter says.
“We’ve reached a natural point in the growth of Carter Williamson where the talent of our staff needs to be recognised and we have put in place an experienced team and structure ready for the exciting years and projects ahead.”
The new appointments are as follows.
Ben Peake
Ben Peake has been promoted to the role of Design Director. He joined Carter Williamson in 2013 and has been promoted from his previous position as Associate. Ben’s accolades include being awarded the 2019 Australian Institute of Architects Dulux Study Tour Prize and the 2014 Byera Hadley Travelling Scholarship.
“Ben is a natural-born leader whose warm and engaging energy makes him a hit with all clients and project teams. With a wealth of life experience and an architectural resume to rival the best, he has led many of Carter Williamson's critical projects with great success. Ben leads our client engagement, marketing, and critical projects, and given his considerable talent, his ascension to Design Director is an obvious and inevitable career step,” says Carter.
Nuala Collins
Nuala Collins has been promoted to Senior Associate from her role as Associate. She joined Carter Williamson in 2013.
“There is nothing Nuala can’t do, and everything she does is exceptional. She brings to the table a wealth of experience across many classes of building, as well as an ability to understand and resolve complexity and detail. She has been in the leadership team for a while, and to continue to acknowledge her achievements with this promotion is a great joy for the studio,” says Carter.
Julie Niass
Julie Niass has been promoted to the role of Senior Associate from her position as an Associate. She joined Carter Williamson in 2013.
“Julie walked in the door ten years ago with a truckload of talent and a rare innate ability to see architecture and perfectly compose colour and materials to suit. Julie leads our interiors team and our material research and development, and is a trusted voice in the studio,” says Carter.
Elke Jacobsen
Elke Jacobsen joined Carter Williamson in 2021 and has been promoted to the role of Associate. Carter says, “Cool under fire and calm on site, Elke has boundless experience and considerable talent. An instinctive project leader within the practice, her easy-going manner makes her a pleasure to work with and a natural when interacting with clients, consultants and builders.”
Thu Zaw
Thu Zaw joined Carter Williamson in 2014 and has been promoted to the role of Associate.
“Thu came to Carter Williamson with impressive design skills, and it has been a joy to watch him develop his substantial talent, cutting his teeth on design and onsite project delivery. Coupled with his intrinsic organisational abilities, it was only a matter of time that Thu be elevated to the leadership team,” says Carter.
