The other Officer Bearer positions confirmed include the endorsement of Peta-Maree Ashford as Vice President and Chris Tidswell as Company Secretary. Claire Martin and Katharina Nieberler-Walker were elected as Directors during the recent member voting process. The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) has announced the appointment of Shaun Walsh as president.
Walsh has expressed gratitude to the membership for re-electing him as a director and to the incoming Board for appointing him as chair and president.
Walsh previously served on the AILA Board from 2016 to 2018 and 2013 to 2015, and briefly in 2012. He has been a registered landscape architect since 2008 and a nominated fellow member from the beginning of 2018. He is currently the CEO of City Parklands Services, which manages Southbank and Roma Street Parklands in Brisbane, Queensland.
"AILA has an exciting couple of years ahead as we look to continue the good work of the previous Board," says Walsh.
"We will be busy implementing ongoing initiatives like the Gender Equity Study, Reconciliation Action Plan, stabilising AILA’s financial performance and the continual review and improvement of the services we offer members. We will continue to work hard on advocating to government about the value landscape architects bring to our cities and town, as well as profiling the profession to the public and other built environment professionals.
“We will [also] promote how Landscape Architects are making our cities more liveable and healthier for the community and how we are the key contributor to the urban design and development of our nation.”
