Sophie Canaris is an architect is currently working as a Exhibitions Project Manager at the Powerhouse Museum. Sophie has worked in London and Sydney with a focus on sustainability, heritage, and adaptive re-use.
She graduated from Sydney University in 2015 and is her last role in an architectural practice was working at Dunn & Hillam Architects.
As an architect, Sophie Canaris has specialized in arts and community projects across Sydney, regional New South Wales, and London. Her work is deeply rooted in sustainability and adaptive reuse, reflecting a commitment to environmentally responsible design.
Beyond her project work, Sophie is actively involved in the architectural community through her roles on the Emerging Architects and Graduates Committee and the Built Environment Committee for the New South Wales chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects. These positions have allowed her to contribute to the profession’s development, particularly in fostering new talent and promoting sustainable practices in architecture.
She has also delivered several galleries and public projects that sensitively revitalise heritage buildings.
Her work on The Gunnery Transformation for example, earned a Highly Commended mention in the Architecture Category at the 2024 National Trust Heritage NSW Awards.
