Arcadia says it is delighted to unveil Matt York (pictured right) as the practice’s new Melbourne Principal, who will work alongside the studio’s long-time leader Nelson Gomes (pictured left).

A former President of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) Victoria, York’s expertise in strategic advice, design and delivery of projects will no doubt boost the practice’s output.

“Having someone with Matt’s experience join Nelson to lead our Victorian studio, means we have one of the most highly regarded leadership teams in the market,” says Arcadia Founding Principal Alex Longley.

Matt will provide additional Principal support and business leadership, off the back of establishing and growing one of Victoria’s largest landscape studios.

We are excited about the depth and rigour that Matt will bring to Arcadia’s senior leadership structure and studio management, both locally and nationally.”

Working across both metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, York, Gomes and the wider Melbourne team work alongside Arcadia’s teams in four studios nationally in New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT.

“Arcadia’s entry into Melbourne captured my attention, particularly with the work they are doing in designing with Country. I am excited by the opportunity to work with Nelson and the team to further build Arcadia’s presence in the local market,” York says.

“Landscape Architecture has the power to shape the built, natural and cultural environment in Melbourne, and I’m looking forward to working on projects that will positively impact our city through improvements in sustainability, inclusive design, affordable living options and a revitalised urban environment.”

York is regarded for his innate understanding of strategic advisory and design, priding himself on collaborating with team members and stakeholders to produce site-responsive designs. He joins a Principal Team of nine other Arcadia executives, intent on providing strong design leadership for more than 65 designers who deliver landscape architecture, urban design, urban planning and masterplanning projects.
