DISSATISFIED with the transmission of airborne and impact generated sound through floors, a group of apartment owners recently commissioned an acoustic consultant to conduct tests to establish the most suitable acoustic underlay for retrofitting their apartment block.
Tests of the leading brands available on the market were conducted in accordance with AS ISO 717.2:2004 and AS/NZS ISO 140.7:2006. Of all the products tested, Acoustica’s AngelStep® 6 was found to have the best acoustic performance.
With a concrete substrate of just 114 mm and with no ceiling, the acoustic performance of AngelStep 6 did not just meet the Building Code of Australia requirements for Class 2 and Class 3 buildings for insulation against the transmission of airborne and impact generated sound, but surpassed those requirements by 38 per cent!
