Australia’s urban population is increasingly being pushed closer to bushfire prone areas. The awareness and understanding of building loss through bushfire, has become a dominant priority with authorities and researchers.
In houses, windows and doors are considered the most susceptible area to bushfire damage. Most houses destroyed in bushfires initially survive the passing of the fire-front, only to burn down hours later from wind-borne embers and debris. Damage to glazing or window systems allows for embers and debris to enter the building and cause ignition.
Xtreme® has been tested by CSIRO to BAL—40 and BAL—FZ, which is fully compliant to AS1530.8.1 and AS1530.8.2 within AS3959—2009. This standard applies to products that can meet the absolute highest bushfire conditions, such as direct exposure to flames, heat flux and ember attack.
These developments are a result of Trend® Windows & Doors’ extensive research, development and testing with the CSIRO over the past several years. All of which have been conducted to develop Australia’s first, fully integrated, flame zone, window and door bushfire protection system.
