From the design team:
Nestled in the heart of Abbotsford on the corner of Nicholson St and Mollison St, Molli offers a place for the local community and guests afar to come together and enjoy Molli’s hospitality, delightful menu and welcoming environment.
The brief called to design a space that was inspired by and reflected the rich surrounding context, embodying a feeling of nostalgia and comfort.
The interior focuses on celebrating the building’s structure and volume whilst also creating moments of intimacy. Concrete walls embrace custom joinery, soft leather and tweed banquette seating as well as provides a unique backdrop for locally sourced treasures and art.
The bar anchors the space and seamlessly transitions into the open kitchen creating a feeling of openness and intrigue. Guests can sit at the high counter, interact with the Molli team whilst also watch their favourite meal being prepared, a nod to sitting at the kitchen counter at home. A record player and records adorn the bar alongside fine wine and found objects.
Various stones ranging in colour and tone work together to form a palette rich in colour and texture. Spotted gum and walnut alongside solid colours are featured in the design of joinery throughout, complimented by antique pieces sourced next door from the local antique collector.
An eclectic mix of old and new come together to create a space that feels like it’s always been there and is full of stories, making every visit more special than the last.
