Paying tribute to the 1950s, 50/50’s House is a reflection of the clientele. Designed by Green Sheep Collective, the challenging project saw the reconfiguration of a mid-century home that is characterised by bold lines and playful geometry work.
The client’s called for a home that would celebrate the history and typology of the home, while improving connection to the outdoors, functionality and comfort. Increased energy efficiency and thermal comfort was also desired.
Colour, joy and light epitomise the internal spaces. Green Sheep Collective relocated the connection between living and dining rooms and removed a wall in order to increase light and introduce contemporary living to the dwelling.
The living room’s now open, expansive space allows for the clientele to style it to their liking. Strong cabinetry articulation in the kitchen underlines the practice’s attention to detail, with shadows bouncing across the cabinets and walls throughout the day.
Double glazed windows replaced the existing, while the balcony features deciduous vines that will eventually provide shading. Materials were only discarded if they were dilapidated and were disposed of correctly.
Landscape architects AKAS oversaw the overhaul of the garden, with improved drainage and water storage reducing stormwater runoff. The extensive garden positively contributes to the area's biodiversity by contributing to wildlife corridors.
