It's all in the name of Rama Architects’ Back to Front House. Sitting at the foot of a quiet cul-de-sac, the house presents as if it is quite literally, back-to-front.
Located in Newport, the dwelling faces to the north and is defined by its recycled brick facade. A sizable cedar front door opens into an expansive contemporary open plan area, comprising living, dining and kitchen space.
The internal walls are clad with milk-washed ply sheeting, with oak floors furthering the timber palette, which makes for a pleasant interior. A white v-groove kitchen has been created, with an expansive long island bench the cornerstone of the open-plan space, made from caesarstone, oak and polyurethane joinery.
When viewed from different vantage points the dwelling takes on different shapes. Viewing the home from the rear reveals an expressed steel structure, painted in micaceous oxide paint with vertical black cladding grounded by sandstone, while the master bedroom provides views of the surrounding coastal landscape.
