Working to intricate planning regulations, Conrad Architects has devised an opulent, marble-clad residence, titled Grange Residence, that overlooks the city of Melbourne.
The house is imagined as a number of individual stone blocks and comprises four bedrooms. The Toorak dwelling contains a number of living spaces that scale between private sanctuaries to social expanses, with occupants progressing through the house to find the view towards the rear.
The entry steps up from the ground, with a stairwell at the entrance leading to the upper ground floor that holds the living and dining areas, as well as a terrace and infinity pool. Living and office spaces sit on the upper levels. The lower ground floor comprises the bedrooms in an attempt to create a private, undisturbed place for the occupants to reside. Below is a basement that holds a garage, gym and utility room.
The entire floorplan is connected via a curvaceous sculpted staircase that has been formed with polished plaster. The gentle curves of the stairwell are enhanced with the inclusion of a skylight. Bronze metal has been utilised for frames, shutters and rotating glazed doors. Concrete, stone and polished plaster feature throughout the interior which create restrained yet assured spaces.
