Acculine Architectural Systems supplied and installed a broad range of custom solutions at the new South East Regional Hospital in Bega, NSW to safeguard both occupants and the building.
NSW’s first-ever facility to be built from the ground up on a greenfield site, the new $160 million South East Regional Hospital is located just minutes from Bega. The state-of-the-art medical-cum-teaching facility is the largest infrastructure project ever to be undertaken in the region and features an emergency department and intensive care services as well as palliative care, oncology, renal dialysis, maternity, neonatal and paediatric units.
Specifically designed to take advantage of the northerly aspect on Bega River with views from every space, the hospital is unique for the way the surrounding landscape is incorporated into the building. The ability to customise colours and design was paramount to the successful delivery of the project while factors such as ease of access and navigation as well as safety for staff, patients and visitors were also prioritised.
Acculine was tasked with the responsibility of providing a number of custom solutions to help protect the building and its occupants within the context of a busy hospital environment.
Acculine installed a selection of corner guards, anti-ligature handrails, wall guards, door panels and door frame protection in custom colours, designs and finishes, enabling the building designers to fulfil the architect’s vision. The ability to offer bespoke solutions led to the development of a new innovative handrail return that could be seamlessly joined to the wall.
Acculine’s products protect against damage caused by wheelchairs, carts, trolleys, lifting machines and general wear and tear. In the Bega hospital project, corner guards and wall guards were supplied and installed to protect the building from damage, while the addition of wall protection in vinyl sheeting and checker plate created low maintenance fascia with no need for patching or repair. Resistance to fire, fungus and bacteria makes the Acculine range perfectly suited to the rigours of hospital environments.
Doorways are a constant source of traffic in busy wards and offices, exposing their surfaces to potential damage from trolleys, wheelchairs and other mobile equipment. The inclusion of door panels and door frame protection ensures that these areas are protected from damage by frequent use, regular impacts and accidents. The installation of bespoke handrail solutions throughout the facility additionally ensures the safety of staff, residents, clients and visitors.
Acculine collaborated with the architects to successfully deliver an innovative space that focussed on the needs of the patients. Acculine has played an integral role in creating a restful, healing environment, contributing to the development of a low maintenance space with a variety of safety solutions implemented to protect the building and its occupants from damage, accidents and injury.
