An iconic stadium built in 1871, Adelaide Oval hosts a diverse range of sporting events such as cricket and AFL football matches as well as entertainment performances. Located north of the Adelaide CBD, the Oval recently completed a $575 million redevelopment and can now accommodate more than 53,000 people.
Several products from ACO Polycrete were installed at the stadium as part of the redevelopment. The project brief sought a perimeter drain to protect the playing arena from stormwater runoff originating from the new grandstands and concourses; a hydraulically efficient and easy to maintain drainage system; and grates that complied with WHS regulations and offered safety for ground maintenance staff.
ACO’s KlassikDrain along with stainless steel linear drainage systems were supplied and installed at the Oval. The KS100 sloped system was supplied with grey plastic Intercept Heelsafe Anti-Slip grates in addition to a perimeter trench drainage system comprising of precision manufactured, modular Polycrete channels.
ACO’s drainage solutions have delivered multiple benefits to the Oval installation: Being sloped with 0.5% built-in fall, ACO channels allow efficient drainage over flat areas; grey coloured plastic Intercept Heelsafe Anti-Slip grates meet all safety requirements and also blend with the adjacent concrete surround; and the QuickLok boltless locking mechanism enables easy access for maintenance.
