The Think Brick Awards recognise some of the best brick and masonry design projects in Australia each year. The architecturally designed Kardinya Close House by HONED Architecture + Design was awarded the New Entrants Category Award at the 2018 awards; what makes the recognition even more special is that the 2018 Think Brick Awards received the largest number of entries to date, with nearly 60 per cent from new entrants.
“By winning this award, our ambition and vision of technical design along with the craftsmanship of the builders and bricklayers is recognised,” says Michael Bernacki, Managing Director at HONED Architecture + Design.
Located on a beautiful picturesque Tamar River frontage site in Legana, Tasmania – a short drive from Launceston, the Kardinya Close House has a rural setting. The design brief called for complete privacy from the streetscape and maximum exposure to the riverfront.
A timber façade and white floating roof define the footprint of the expansive residence. The neutral colour palette is further accentuated by Adbri Masonry’s Designer Masonry Honed Concrete Blocks in Ivory framing the views both inside and out.
“A prominent trend we’re seeing this year is the use of brick that seamlessly transitions from the outdoors in. Concrete bricks are an excellent alternative to other walling materials as there’s an array of colour and texture options. Not to mention they’re low-maintenance and fire-resistant,” says Karl Wood, Marketing Manager at Adbri Masonry.
This is the fourth consecutive year Adbri Masonry has been part of a winning team and presented with a Think Brick Award, following the incredible Perimeter House renovation, designed by MAKE Architecture, which won the 2017 Kevin Borland Masonry Award.
