Several products from Allplastics Engineering were specified for the fabrication of special enclosures for penguins at the Sea Life Aquarium in Sydney’s Darling Harbour.
MPA, the Project Managers responsible for the $9M fitout, sought black HDPE for slides as well as polycarbonates and acrylics, custom cut to meet urgent project deadlines.
The Penguin Enclosure, which resembles a miniature Macquarie Island, is today home to 26 Gentoo penguins. Visitors can meet the sub Antarctic penguins face-to-face in a chilly journey around the enclosure.
HDPE panels provide a great alternative to timber or metal in marine environments. While the birds will not be harmed by the smooth surface texture of HDPE, the facility will also not have any hassles with ongoing maintenance issues such as rot, rust and delamination.
