The owners of this beautiful home in Harndorf, South Australia originally had their hearts set on a two-storey building, but architect Tim Hodges (who is also a long-time friend of the couple) convinced them the views over the neighbouring Hahndorf winery and vineyard would have even more wow factor if they raised the height of the ceilings and kept the footprint to one floor.
The results of that decision are spectacular.
The home is a veritable honeycomb of glass walls, floor-to-ceiling doors and vast windows that connect the owners with their beautiful surroundings while ensuring controlled solar heat gain and loss in all weathers.
With the extremes of the local environment in mind, products from the Alspec range were selected and supplied by fabricator AA Windows & Doors.
“I had literally no issues and no complications with the work of the fabricator,” says Tim. “The process was so smooth and that’s very rare. I can’t recall one issue. It was a great effort from AA. Just a flawless process from showing them the drawings, right through to the installation.”
When asked what his proudest achievement at the Hahndorf property is, Tim simply says, “The happiness and the joy that these guys [the owners] have. They’re very, very proud of their home.”
