The popular Hunter Evo framing solutions from ALSPEC were the logical choice for the glazing requirements during the construction and renovation of the Greenslopes Private Hospital in Brisbane, QLD. Originally built in 1942, the hospital recently went through extensive renovations as well as new construction while remaining fully operational providing medical services.
Designed by Phillips Smith Conwell and built by Kane Constructions, the project included the construction of a new specialist medical centre with 30 specialist consulting suites, extensions to the existing operating theatres, a new 90-bed ward block, demolition of some of the original structures, and the addition of new parking and landscaped areas, with all the works completed within the existing footprint of the hospital grounds.
Hunter Evo framing products were selected to deliver to the project’s glazing requirements across the development site thanks to their ease of fabrication and installation. One of the most versatile and flexible of Alspec’s framing systems, Hunter Evo Single Glazed framing comes in two frame depths: 101.6mm and 150mm x 50mm.
Hunter Evo 150 x 50mm was chosen to meet the desired large spans and the required wind pressure as well as satisfy project design goals including providing a curtain wall look without exceeding the client’s budget. The project featured 6mm toughened Sunergy green from National Glass, a toned low-E coated glass that offered improved solar control and thermal insulation over standard clear glass.
Key features of Hunter Evo framing include ability to accommodate a range of single glass thicknesses from 4mm to 14mm; robust frames subjected to cyclonic impact testing; self-draining sub sills preventing water ingress; flexibility to be glazed internally or externally; configuration available to accommodate double glazing; and both single and double glazed options interfacing seamlessly with Alspec products.
