Sky Park at Lendlease’s Melbourne Quarter development is an elevated park designed to provide a welcome green oasis in the concrete jungle of the city.
A design collaboration involving Oculus, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design Studio, and Aspect Studios, Sky Park is based on the principles of biophilic design. Suspended over a wide pedestrian plaza with views of Southern Cross Station, the elevated park is open for public access Monday through Friday, providing both local residents and office workers comforting green spaces as they take a break from their busy day.
Anston Architectural Products was engaged by Oculus to provide a paving solution for the hardscaped areas within Sky Park. Oculus selected a modified mix, using the existing colour Atlas from Anston’s Granite Range as a paving base and adding chunky bluestone fragments to create an exposed aggregate look. Since this environment would be subject to high foot traffic, the extra detail within the exposed aggregate paving planks would not only reduce staining from general wear but also maintain the elegant appearance for a longer time.
Sky Park and the adjacent commercial tower at One Melbourne Quarter represent the first stage of the extensive development. Once complete, Melbourne Quarter will form a brand new city precinct consisting of new residences, offices, shops and hospitality spaces in the south of the CBD.
