AODELI’s new mirror aluminium panel (MAP) was chosen to assist with a design challenge at the new Connection exhibition at The Lume in Melbourne. Opened on 23 June, Connection features First Nations Stories that are presented through art, music, and cutting-edge technology. The exhibit, Emily’s Room, by one of Australia’s prominent contemporary artists, Emily Kame Kngwarreye, was achieved using AODELI’s MAP panels.
Emily’s Room focuses on one of Kngwarreye’s most notable works, Emily’s Wall, which depicts her perception of the changing seasons across a series of 120cm x 90cm panels. Each panel was created within a single week over a 12-month period. The aim for Emily’s Room was to give visitors the illusion of infinite depth whilst maintaining the symbolism of the enduring legacy that Emily has left behind.
Aodeli worked closely with the design team at Grande Experiences, along with the builder – Wamarra who led the fit-out, and installers True Line Cladding, to achieve the design brief of an Immersive Gallery for this project. Mirror aluminium panel was selected as the ideal solution for the installation on the floor and the ceilings to reflect the Emily’s Wall panels that covered each wall in the Room. The use of the MAP had many advantages including being lightweight and easy to install as well as providing superior reflective qualities.
“We are super proud to have been part of this masterpiece, working in seamless collaboration with key stakeholders at Grande Experiences, Wamarra, and True Line on the delivery of the MAP installation in Emily’s Room. I highly recommend a visit to The Lume to experience this state-of-the-art immersive gallery first-hand. It’s amazing,” commented Jeff Yeates, State Manager for AODELI.
This is not the first time that AODELI’s mirror products have been used as part of an exhibition installation. The Company’s SSP stainless steel mirror panel was launched at the end of 2021 as part of the National Gallery of Victoria’s Gabrielle Chanel Fashion Manifesto exhibition, and again most recently in 2023 at the National Gallery of Victoria’s Alexander McQueen Exhibition.
Mirror panels are an increasingly popular choice for designers as they create truly unique and ever-changing facades or, in the case of Emily’s Room, to reflect something as part of a specific design intent.
The MAP finishes are available on AODELI’s 3mm Solid Aluminium Panel (SAP). The product is fully non-combustible and tested and approved to AS1530.1 and AS1530.3. The mirror aluminium panel product is an ideal solution for internal applications such as feature walls and ceilings or for exterior soffits.
