Several products from Architectural Window Systems (AWS) were specified for the Wayfarer Apartments in Canberra to help meet the developer’s vision for the building.
At 27 storeys, the Wayfarer development is the tallest residential building in the Canberra region. Built on the shores of a placid lakefront, Wayfarer’s 331 sun-drenched apartments boast sweeping views of Canberra, with standout features such as a dazzling façade, grand entrance, sky lounge entertainment area and rooftop pool representing the best of sophisticated inner-city living.
Passionate about shaping the future of Canberra, developer GEOCON worked closely with Cox Architecture to realise their design vision for Wayfarer. With sunlight, ventilation and connection to the outdoors being major design goals, several door, window and framing systems from AWS were selected for installation with inputs from the fabricator, Taylors Windows.
AWS products used in the development included 100mm deep tubular sub head to conceal exhaust ventilation ducts; AWS Series 704 upmarket commercial sliding doors and door frames including integrated fly doors for a neat and seamless system; Series 626 double glazed 150mm framing; Series 168 curtain wall double glazed; awning sashes; and Series 52 hinged door panels inlayed into the base framework for a bold, commercial appearance.
Spanning the slab edge of 22 floors with a run of glass was a major challenge. The solution was a magnificent curtain wall, chosen for its ease of installation, ability to meet the design of a four-sided structural glazed unit and aluminium frame, and providing the appearance of mostly glass panels.
