For the Crocodile Hunter Lodge project in Beerwah, QLD, WD Architects designed the reception building, which includes indoor and outdoor fine dining, bar, private function room, 25m pool, guest amenities, and administration.

The design concept is ‘luxury woolshed’, paying homage to the best of Australian rural vernacular within a contemporary architectural aesthetic that enhances the experience of the bushland site.

WD Architects provided the feedback below upon completion of the project:

Unique characteristics of the project: The unusual angles of the roofs, especially on the foyer roofs where they are tapering; the large spans and cantilevers.

Benefits of using the Arcpanel roofing system: Build time. We had a very tight schedule and we pushed to its limits. The system really helped this. The aesthetic really suits the design with the large spans and cantilevers giving an elegant slim structure.

Savings: At the time of the build there was a huge difficulty in getting LVLs; in addition to this, the cost of timber continued to go up. Arcpanel reduced the amount of structure required.

Summary comment: Arcpanel was enormously helpful throughout the whole process. The end result could not have been better.

Builder Midson Construction provided the feedback below upon completion of the project:

“The ARCPANEL roof system was a great product to use. This project was a really interesting design with some huge spans and cantilevers of over 2m in some areas. Speedy installation and all went together really well. Definitely 3-4 times quicker than a conventional roof,” said Liam, Senior Project Manager, Midson Construction (QLD).
