Ausco Modular provided a complete turnkey solution to a client to meet their brief for medium density housing for their workers being relocated to Blackwater. Ausco’s state-of-the-art modular processes combined with modern architectural principles helped deliver 14 modern apartments within two complexes. Each complex was a low rise, two-storey building offering a mix of one- and two-bedroom homes.
Ausco manufactured the building modules in Brisbane following a strict Q&A process before transporting them 830km to Blackwater, where they were installed and connected to aboveground services. The client chose to supply the in-ground services and external works including landscaping, carparks, BBQ area, storage facilities and rubbish enclosures. Ausco Modular’s dedicated project team worked closely with the client and their suppliers to schedule the installation of the apartments around the client’s programme.
Ausco Modular’s scope of work included providing the footings, buildings, front decks and external stairways with the suspended front façade and concrete decks constructed in situ to further enhance the streetscape.
Noise levels between apartments were reduced using Ausco’s CompCrete internally throughout the project. A lighter alternative to normal concrete, CompCrete possesses all the characteristics and benefits of concrete, especially the strength and acoustic qualities.
Designed with a focus on the resident’s comfort, the apartment comprises of a galley kitchen finished with quality fixtures, sleek cabinetry and a full range of stainless steel appliances; the living area, which opens to a private balcony with glazed glass partitions to make the most of local views and cool breezes; and spacious bedrooms featuring built-in robes as well as soft carpets that are hardwearing and easy to clean.
Providing apartments for worker accommodation minimises maintenance and allows workers more time to relax and enjoy the local community. The modular apartments are a standout project in Blackwater, and represent the finest in worker housing in the Bowen Basin.
