Reaction Injection Moulding (RIM) is a moulding technique where two liquid components, an isocyanate and polyol, are allowed to react and cure in a mould. The physical characteristics of polyurethane RIM parts are low weight and high strength. Polyurethane RIM parts are available from Australian Urethane Systems .
The liquid isocyanate and polyol are held in separate temperature controlled feed tanks equipped with agitators. The two components are fed through supply lines to metering units that meter both components precisely, at high pressure, to a mixhead device. The components subsequently cure in the moulds by means of a chemical reaction.
Polyurethane RIM parts are used for high impact structural applications including:
- Automotive trim and accessories
- Agricultural and construction equipment
- Running boards
