A high performance flooring technology from BASF - The Chemical Company has been used at two of New Zealand’s leading milk processing plants for floor safety and easy cleaning.
UCRETE DP floors from BASF are designed to deliver robust non-slip safety while ensuring a hygienic environment through easy cleaning.
BASF’s UCRETE DP floors have been laid at the milk processing plants in Takanini, Auckland and Reporoa, Waikato in New Zealand belonging to Fonterra Co-operative Group, one of the top ten dairy companies in the world.
UCRETE DP floors were first laid in a newly expanded processing area at Fonterra’s yoghurt, cheese and UHT plant in Takanini, whilst the second floor was included as part of the refurbishment works in one of the packaging areas with a total surface area of approximately 500m². This part of the work was considered as a live trial to assess the product’s performance under actual operating conditions.
Topcoat Specialist Coatings Ltd was awarded the contract for the new UCRETE DP floors and preparatory works.
Brett Wheeler, Director of Topcoat Specialist Coatings Ltd said that the Takanini plant work provided them with an ideal opportunity to highlight UCRETE DP’s excellent performance in demanding conditions including heavy foot and equipment traffic, harsh operating conditions, strict hygiene standards and punishing cleaning regime.
These conditions required a floor, which was extremely hard wearing, resistant to a wide range of materials, able to withstand constant temperature cycling, easy to clean and had a safe, slip-resistant surface.
In addition to meeting all requirements, UCRETE DP floors deliver the added bonus of an attractive surface that will stay looking good for years to come.
Satisfied with the results of UCRETE DP floors at the Takanini plant, Fonterra decided to install a UCRETE DP floor in a section of its Reporoa plant. Also contracted to Topcoat Specialist Coatings Ltd, the new flooring in the Tanker Reception Bay covers an area of 700m² and incorporates a hardened non-slip aggregate to provide maximum slip resistance and extreme wear resistance to cater for the high levels of heavy vehicle traffic.
