Located at La Trobe University’s Melbourne (Bundoora) Campus, the new Sports Park development is a world-class facility for teaching, research, community participation and elite sport. The Sports Park houses a state-of-the-art teaching and research facility, an elite performance space and world-class sporting facilities to support major sports events.
Sports Park is also the new home of the Matildas in Victoria, and has been used as the training base for the Matildas ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The park includes separate Centres of Excellence for Football Victoria and Rugby Victoria, with shared common access, parking and public amenity facilities. Amongst a range of playing and physical training areas, the park also includes meeting areas and player lounges.
Bildspec was selected by builder Minicon Construction as the supplier of choice for operable walls at the Sports Park’s meeting facilities. Based on the design by architect Populous, Bildspec has installed one Series 100 Rw49-rated acoustic movable wall between the main boardroom and function room areas, giving Sports Park greater flexibility when wanting to use the collective space as a larger function area. Dividing panels can be easily opened to connect various spaces into a larger, more inclusive environment whilst still providing acoustic separation and privacy from adjacent spaces.
Two similar movable acoustic walls were installed between three briefing rooms, allowing the creation of larger or smaller spaces for collaborative briefing and training environments. Operable walls allow large spaces in team-based training facilities to be transformed into flexible environments that suit the working and training needs of players and coaches. The walls were finished in a combination of Autex Vertiface Porcelain and Instyle Fabric Think Plus Young.
