Capral is proud to continue its longstanding partnership with Sculpture by the Sea at Bondi 2024. This collaboration goes beyond sponsorship, as Capral actively supports artists in bringing their large-scale, imaginative sculptures to life. Through providing materials and technical expertise, Capral is helping to foster creativity and showcase the potential of aluminium in public art projects.
This year, Capral has provided aluminium to support the work of four talented artists: Lucy Barker, Denise Pepper, Ayesha Singh, and Jon Tarry. Beyond supplying materials, Capral has played a critical role in offering technical guidance, helping these artists bring their complex visions to fruition. Aluminium is an ideal material for public art, thanks to its strength, lightweight nature, and adaptability – making it perfect for outdoor installations that must withstand the elements while remaining visually striking.
Highlighting the deepening collaboration between Capral and Sculpture by the Sea, the company introduced the Capral Artist Subsidy this year. Lucy Barker (NSW) was awarded this $5,000 subsidy for her piece, ‘Glittering Prize’. This work, among more than 100 sculptures featured in the exhibition, exemplifies the potential of aluminium as a medium in art.
Barker shares her gratitude for Capral’s support: "Without Capral’s assistance, I couldn’t have brought my vision for Bondi to life. Their expertise with aluminium was invaluable, and their contribution allowed me to work confidently with a material I had never used before. The strength, lightweight nature, and malleability of aluminium made it the perfect choice for my intricate design."
