Capral Aluminium is pleased to announce the successful trials of the Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba)’s EternAl-30 and EternAl-15 primary aluminium billets. These innovative products, containing 30% and 15% recycled content, respectively, have set a new standard for carbon reduction and recycled content in the Australian aluminium market, marking a significant milestone for both businesses.
Earlier this year, Capral announced its intention to trial Alba’s EternAl-15 and EternAl-30 primary aluminium containing recycled content. The trials that took place throughout July at Capral's Bremer Park extrusion press in Queensland were successful, with Capral's high standards for performance, extrudability, and finish achieved using both materials.
Luke Hawkins, General Manager Industrial and Supply Chain comments: "We have completed rigorous trials of both the EternAl-15 and EternAl-30 aluminium produced by Alba and successfully produced extrusions that meet our expectations for tolerance, structural properties, extrudability and finish. An exciting achievement for both businesses as it paves the way for Capral to add the EternAl-15 and EternAl-30 options to our product offer, allowing us to deliver extrusions produced using recycled content for the Australian market."
Recycling aluminium consumes up to 95% less energy than producing it from raw materials, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions, conserving natural resources, minimising waste, and supporting a circular economy. This sustainable approach not only reduces environmental impact but also delivers economic benefits, making aluminium recycling a crucial element in combating climate change and promoting industry-wide sustainability.
"We are very grateful to our supply partner Alba for taking a leadership position in this space and producing a high-quality primary aluminium option, suitable for our needs, incorporating recycled content," Luke adds.
Capral's journey towards integrating recycled content aluminium has been proactive. Since launching its LocAl lower carbon aluminium offer in 2023, Capral has been working with supply partners to explore options for procuring primary aluminium billet incorporating recycled content. Recognising the demand in the local market for this product but also acknowledging the importance of embracing circularity in the aluminium value chain, Capral has been working with supply partners to explore options for procuring primary aluminium billet incorporating recycled content.
"Alba has been particularly proactive in responding to our needs and supporting our desire to investigate options around primary billet with recycled content," says Luke "Like Capral, Alba is an ASI Chain of Custody certified organisation, which gives us confidence that they are ensuring the material they supply to Capral has been produced responsibly at every stage in the aluminium value chain. It gives us great confidence taking this product to market knowing that it will deliver a best-in-class sustainable solution for Australian manufacturers."
Commenting on the successful trials, Alba’s CEO Ali Al Baqali stated: “At Alba, driving sustainable aluminium production is not just a goal, it's our mission. The successful trials of EternAl-15 and EternAl-30 with Capral represent a significant leap forward in achieving that mission.”
“We're incredibly proud to partner with a forward-thinking company like Capral, allowing us to not only deliver these high-quality, recycled content products to the Australian market, but to truly revolutionise the aluminium industry. Together, we're empowering Australian manufacturers to become environmental leaders, embrace a circular economy, and build a greener future. This is just the beginning, and I'm excited about the possibilities EternAl unlocks for sustainable construction, a cleaner marine industry, and a more responsible transportation sector in Australia.”
Capral is poised to release this product to the market and expects rapid uptake in various industrial sectors, including construction, marine and transport.
Capral, Australasia's only ASI Certified aluminium extruder, has been certified against the ASI Performance Standard V3 and Chain of Custody (CoC) V2 for the extrusion, warehousing, and distribution of aluminium products and services. These certifications, applicable to all 29 Capral facilities across Australia, underscore the company’s commitment to responsible production, sourcing, and management of aluminium products, positioning them and their supplier Alba among a select group of international aluminium producers and suppliers who have met the rigorous standards set by the ASI.
Sustainability is at the core of Capral's operations. Recognising the urgent need to address climate change, Capral is committed to making a positive impact through its operations and products. The successful integration of Alba EternAl into Capral's product range will allow the company to supply lower-carbon aluminium with recycled content to a diverse range of Australian manufacturing industries, including marine, defence, transport, construction, signage, and general fabrication.
Capral will continue to explore innovative ways to reduce environmental impact and support customers in their sustainability journeys.
