Capral Aluminium has recently received its first Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Chain of Custody (CoC) certified shipment from Hydro. This milestone provides Capral with a valued partner in the supply of ASI CoC-certified material.
"Capral is committed to embedding sustainability and responsible procurement practices throughout our supply chain; strategic partnerships with suppliers like Hydro who adhere to rigorous industry standards are fundamentally important to our ongoing sustainability and procurement strategies," comments Luke Hawkins, General Manager Industrial and Supply Chain.
"Moreover, it underscores Hydro’s commitment to being a responsible supplier and ensuring their products meet the highest sustainability criteria."
The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative and its Chain of Custody certification are globally recognised standards that ensure responsible production, sourcing, and stewardship of aluminium throughout the supply chain. The Chain of Custody standard tracks explicitly the flow of ASI-certified aluminium, ensuring that each stage from production to final product meets stringent environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria. This certification assures customers and stakeholders that the aluminium products they purchase are sourced responsibly and sustainably.
"As part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring sustainability within our business, Capral is focused on strengthening its relationship with ASI CoC partners and procuring more ASI-certified aluminium. We want to work with partners who have robust ESG policies in place and who are demonstrating that sustainability is front of mind," says Hawkins.
Capral achieved ASI certification in 2023; its ASI performance and Chain of Custody certification align with the business' broader sustainability strategy, which aims to reduce environmental impact, enhance transparency, and promote ethical practices across its supply chain.
"ASI CoC certification assures our customers that our products are sustainably sourced and produced. We are proud to partner with suppliers like Hydro and lead by example in the aluminium industry," adds Hawkins.
Capral has embraced the ASI compliance program as a suitable, audited ESG framework that sets rigorous international benchmarks and provides certainty around quality assurance.
For Hydro, one of the world's largest aluminium producers, this shipment represents the first ASI CoC-certified shipment of their material into the Australian market.
Capral has indicated it will continue to work with its supply partners to ensure more of its primary aluminium material is supplied under ASI Chain of Custody certification leading to more responsible and sustainable sourcing outcomes for local manufacturers using Capral Aluminium.
