Clever design was combined with stylish window and door framing products to deliver contemporary, light-filled and spacious living spaces at two new designer townhouses in Altona VIC. Window and door products from Alspec and Carinya were specified to deliver a contemporary edge that sits comfortably within the established neighbourhood.
The Altona townhouses were designed by Drew Building Design, and built by Mancini Made, who were shortlisted for an MBA Award for this project.
Featuring a pitched roof that enables high ceilings, the townhouses on Maidstone Street, Altona are designed to maximise light and space within the compact site. Passive design principles and a photovoltaic energy system add to the green credentials of the two buildings. The recycled red brick façade and dark grey Colorbond standing seam cladding are complemented by Alspec and Carinya window and door framing products, powdercoated in an on-trend finish of Dulux Electro Black Ace, and installed by Alspec fabricator AAA Advanced Windows.
Carinya’s Classic 92mm awning windows provide a distinctly clean finish thanks to their bevelled edge frame and integrated hinge design. The wide 50mm sill provides a stable base for a chainwinder, which can be either standard or restricted, depending on the building’s requirements. A wide range of screening options is available for the strong and durable windows, which are also available in a slimline 50mm profile.
Access to the outdoor deck areas of the townhouses is provided by Carinya’s Classic sliding doors, which combine high durability with a sleek, elegant appearance. Developed for the residential high-rise apartment segment, Carinya sliding doors feature internally concealed weather flaps, concealed cavities and various sill configurations to ensure performance in all weather conditions. Carinya Classic doors also feature Alspec’s proprietary commercial roller system, which ensures smooth operation and the ability to carry larger glazing loads.
Alspec’s ecoFRAMEplus 101.6mm centre pocket double glazed framing was selected for its superior energy-efficiency. The ecoFRAMEplus is versatile and features sharp unbroken lines, adding to the building’s modern feel. Framing with a 101.6mm depth was used for this build; however, it is also available in 150mm with either depth able to accommodate single glazing between 4-12mm or double glazing up to 28mm. The robust frames deliver exceptional weathering properties and easily adapt to Carinya’s windows and doors.
The design excellence combined with the high performance window and door framing products provides the best in urban living for the new occupants while maintaining compatibility with the existing streetscape.
