The Civil Contractors Federation (Victoria) has welcomed the Baillieu Government’s review into the industrial relation principles governing publicly funded building and construction projects.
CEO of CCF (Victoria), Claude Cullino comments that the Governmental review into the Code of Practice for the Building and Construction Industry 1999 is a welcome response to the current industrial landscape in Victoria’s construction industry.
Strengthening the Code will alleviate concerns the CCF has about the differing standards within the Victorian construction industry, which drive up costs and adversely impact upon the State’s competitiveness.
While welcoming the action, Mr Cullino also said that the review should also ensure that major projects are not unnecessarily hijacked or delayed, or do not lead to poor industry practices.
The CCF looks forward to contributing to the review of the Code, and working closely with the State Government to ensure desired improvements are made in public sector tendering.
