Opening in late 2016, the new Royal Adelaide Hospital is set to serve the community as the state’s flagship hospital. When it comes to providing world-class health care every detail matters, from cutting-edge medical technology to the structures and facilities that house it.
That’s why we are thrilled that the project, which is a joint venture involving Hansen Yuncken and Leighton Contractors, is using Construction Specialties seismic expansion joint covers and Acrovyn wall and door frame protection system.
The new Royal Adelaide Hospital is located in a seismically active area. Because of this, seismic expansion joint covers are crucial to maintaining safety standards and ensuring the hospital’s long-term viability.
Our seismic expansion joint covers are being used throughout the building including the façade, floors, walls, ceilings and car park.
Large seismic joints can be unsightly, but we’ve created a wide range of solutions like our SSR and SGR series that help maintain architects’ design integrity while meeting rigorous safety standards.
Our “XLS” Seismic expansion joint covers were integrated into the buildings’ façade, with the façade glass inserted into our customized covers making for an invisible expansion joint cover.
With thousands of people coming and going from the hospital on a daily basis, our seismic expansion joints will help keep them safe — even when the Earth decides to move.
And with the outside taken care of, it was time to also help protect the interior of this state of the art hospital with Construction Specialties Acrovyn range of products.
The Acrovyn hand rail selected for Royal Adelaide Hospital is the HRB10CN model, which incorporates a crash rail. Its streamlined appearance means it looks great while helping to prevent damage to the walls. The rail also comes in a range of colourways including two-tone surface. The design team selected the timber-look Chameleon hand rail with a white crash rail.
Matching corner guards complement the handrail to deliver a pleasing, sophisticated feature.
