Utilising ultra high-performance triple silver soft coats, architects and engineers can now specify insulated glazing that exceeds NCC requirements, without impacting on visible light transmission.
What is the triple silver soft coat in Insulcool Ultra Plus?
Triple silver soft coats are a type of low-e (low emissivity) coating that is applied to the surface of the glass. The ‘triple silver’ designation means three layers of silver are used in the manufacturing of the coating. The ‘soft coat’ means that the coating is applied to the inside surface of the glass, rather than the outside surface. Soft coat low-e coatings offer better performance and durability than hard coat low-e coatings.
In the case of Insulcool Ultra Plus, the use of three layers of silver as opposed to two layers in a double silver coating, results in greatly improved performance. The additional layer of silver enhances the ability of the IGU to reflect long-wave infrared radiation, the radiation responsible for the majority of heat transfer through a window. The use of three layers of silver also allows for finer control over the spectral selectivity of the coating, or the ability to reflect heat while allowing visible light to pass through.
Ultra Plus Cool-E offers exceptional performance for visible light transmittance and a low solar heat gain coefficient. The custom made units are available in standard clear; however, they can be combined with custom makeups using green, grey, bronze and dark grey offering even lower reflectance and reduced glare.
