When the 700m² showroom floor of the John Hughes Volkswagon dealership at Victoria Park, Perth was to be retiled, Davco Construction Materials’ Ultrabond primer/bond enhancer was chosen to prepare the surface for tiling.
According to City Tile Contractors operations manager David Mortimer, when the old carpet was ripped up a surface contaminated with old adhesive was exposed.
“Without Ultrabond it would have been necessary to machine sand to try to remove the old adhesive or scabble the concrete. These methods are often unsatisfactory and is very time consuming, not to mention very expensive,” he says.
“Ultrabond was the ideal product because of its unique benefit of allowing tiling to be carried out straight over the old contaminated surface. So there was no sanding required and that meant no dust spreading throughout the premises, which operated throughout the refurbishment period.”
Ultrabond’s quick curing time, 6 to 8 hours at 20ºC, is another important benefit in critical projects such as a major new car showroom.
The surface can be quickly tiled over using any of Davco’s cement-based or two-part adhesives. It will enhance the bond of tile adhesives onto substrates.
