The Grand Prix title in the 2013 Dulux Colour Awards has been awarded to the ‘Atherton Gardens HUB Development’ in Melbourne, co-designed by McCabe Architects and Bird de la Coeur Architects.
The project was also crowned as the winner of the Multi Residential Exterior category, with judges commending how a combined use of pattern and colour was successfully woven to create a rich tapestry aesthetic.
The Grand Prix title was awarded to the ‘Atherton Gardens HUB Development’ in the 2013 Dulux Colour Awards for its innovative use of colour in architecture and design.
According to the judging panel, the Atherton Gardens HUB development exhibited ‘exceptional bold use of colour on the external façade of the balconies, which in turn created a vibrant impact and strong contrast against the white external walls’.

Award-winning interior designer, Debbie Ryan from McBride Charles Ryan, one of the four judges for this year’s Dulux Colour Awards, said there were similar influences across all projects and categories with projects exhibiting balanced incorporation of bright colours in both interior and exterior spaces.
Dana Tomic Hughes – business owner and editor of interior design blog, Yellowtrace; Adrian Doyle – Melbourne street artist and director of Blender Studios and Melbourne Art Tours; and Denise L’Estrange-Corbet – New Zealand designer and co-founder of fashion label WORLD, joined Debbie Ryan in judging entries in the 27th Dulux Colour Awards.

All category winners received AUD$1,000 in cash and a trophy while the Grand Prix winner received AUD$1,500 in cash plus airfare, accommodation and entry to an international design fair. The Student category winner also received AUD$1,000 cash prize and trophy, plus the opportunity to produce their own limited edition colour palette as part of Designers for Dulux program.
