The Drum Theatre located in the heart of Dandenong is a central architectural piece of the town. This 1890 building has been restored from its former Town Hall use to now include contemporary architectural features. Encompassing a 518-seat state-of-the-art purpose-built performing arts theatre, stage and fly tower, this award-winning building features a ‘vibrant red drum’ at its centre giving it its name – Drum Theatre.
Drum Theatre hosts over 170 performances, bringing in 85,500 patrons annually across a range of performing arts from local groups to professional touring productions. Drum Theatre is proud to be the vibrant hub for arts and cultural activity within Dandenong and to be inclusive of the diverse communities as well as continue to work to build connection through performing arts.
A perfect match
Opened to the public in 2006, Drum Theatre required a flooring solution that tied in with their existing heritage seamlessly, offering artists and local and surrounding communities a vibrant location to express a range of performing art mediums. In 2020, Drum Theatre required a refresh that tied in with the existing and well-loved architecture and furniture within the building. Transitions 3 in colours Sunburst and Oxide provided the perfect colour match to the existing furniture within the auditorium. These carpet tiles provided a fresh feeling underfoot that will stand the test of time with an ACCS rating of Contract Extra Heavy Duty.
The Transitions 3 carpet design is set out in map-like form, the structured grid of a bustling city: the random geometry of subterranean train lines resurfacing above ground, rectilinear intersections, narrow alleyways, city blocks and roundabouts, a criss-crossing of everyday humanity. This design aligns with the location of the Drum Theatre itself, being in the heart of Dandenong, central to the local train station.
