The Hyne Community Trust will fund a new roof at the Tumbarumba Tennis Club, which has been at the heart of the local community for over 50 years as the only tennis facility in the region.

Utilised by individuals and school groups alike, the club house is as important as the courts, according to club president Michael Wolter.

“I grew up playing on these courts and have many fond memories from this club house,” Wolter said.

“Just a stone’s throw from the main street and rolling into park land, the club house is also a great spot for community groups to utilise with a recently renovated, fully functional kitchen.

“Sadly, we have had a leaky roof but with the support of the Hyne Community Trust, we will be replacing it completely including the ceiling,” he added.

Community member Renee Moxey has been a keen tennis player throughout her youth, playing in various competitions during the summer months.

“Tennis has always been great fun throughout the summer months, and we definitely need to keep working to introduce more and more young people to the sport,” Moxey said.

“None of the local schools have tennis courts so coming to the Tumbarumba Tennis Club is the only way for the youth of the town to be introduced to it, have fun and learn from experienced coaches.

“The club house is always a good spot to meet other club members and there is often a slice of homemade cake up for grabs too,” she said.

The Hyne Community Trust was established in 2007 and has provided almost $700,000 to the Tumbarumba community to date.

Trust chair Kerrie Downes said it was always a pleasure to present the cheque to community groups who have been around for some time and are very much a valued part of the community.

“One of the best parts of my job at Hyne is being the chair of the Hyne Community Trust and meeting these community groups who provide so much benefit to our community.

“It is great to meet their members and be able to provide funds, which will see works commence on improvements to their facility and continue to benefit the community for many more years to come,” Downes added.
