Portable heaters, floodlights and generators supplied by Kennards Hire Penrith helped the postal services avoid delays during a 36-hour blackout in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney.

According to Frank Ferraivolo, manager of the Katoomba mail delivery centre, the two 240V diesel-powered infrared heaters were particularly appreciated by staff who started work in the early hours during a period of very low temperatures. The workers were kept comfortable during the period with the heaters’ ability to broadcast heat over a wide area.

Floodlights were used to illuminate the centre during the blackout. Mr Ferraivolo also picked out the 6.5kVA silenced inverter unit as particularly good between the two generators supplied by Kennards Hire. With the postal office located in a built-up area, the inverter’s quietness was an important factor. Key advantages also included its ability to run their computers as well as fuel efficiency.

Kennards’ range of large infrared heaters has been very popular for heating and drying since their introduction two years ago.
