Student One launched their 41-storey tower on Wharf Street, Brisbane, completing a trilogy of student residences including the Adelaide Street tower launched in mid-2016 and the Elizabeth Street tower, which is due to open in January 2019.
Considered the world’s tallest purpose-built student accommodation tower, the $120-million, 122-metre high Brisbane residence was launched earlier this year by Lord Mayor Graham Quirk.
Student accommodation facilities are being developed across Australia in a big way, highlighting the world-class tertiary education status of the country. According to Student One chief executive, Tim Weston, “international education is worth more than $4 billion annually to the Queensland economy, making it the state’s second largest services export and in Brisbane, its largest services export”.
Student One Wharf Street, Brisbane
Featuring 753 rooms in configurations of one-bedroom studios and multi-share apartments, Student One Wharf Street is currently the largest purpose-built student accommodation tower in the world.
Designed by architects Arkhefield and built by Hutchinson Builders, the tower also includes outdoor terraces with barbeque and pool facilities, recreational media rooms, games rooms and a gym, and the rooftop ‘Sky Lounge’ boasting sweeping city views. On the ground floor, the unique lobby features the warm perforated Key-Ply Hoop Pine plywood by Keystone Linings contrasting beautifully against the raw concrete.
Key-Ply’s slotted or perforated plywood panels deliver a natural and organic look, turning your space into an inviting and relaxing environment. Designs can also be customised with a variety of materials, finishes and choice of perforation patterns and borders.
