Several panel products from Kingspan Insulated Panels were specified for the new Wirtgen industrial facility in Perth, Australia.
Completed in 2015, the new building comprises of an office, sales wing, warehouse and specialist service workshops for valuable, heavy-duty road construction and mining machinery. The design brief for the project was influenced by Western Australia’s harsh climate, which would expose the building to extreme heat and heavy rain; this meant the building needed to have superior thermal and fire performance capabilities, as well as maximum design flexibility and efficiency.
Kingspan’s insulated panels were chosen for their ability to deliver on these key areas.
Products used in the Wirtgen project included Mini-Micro and Ultra-Temp architectural wall panels, featuring a secret-fix system with five distinct profiles; Trapezoidal roof, a highly versatile system with leading guarantees; and membrane lined insulated box gutters, suitable for both boundary wall and valley gutter applications.
Kingspan’s insulated gutters were chosen due to their superior thermal performance and ability to create an enhanced siphonic drainage system. These gutters are LPCB certified to LPS 1181 Grade EXT-B and offer U-values of 0.35W/m2K and 0.21W/m2K for 60mm and 100mm thicknesses respectively. The insulated gutters integrated with the Trapezoidal roof, and Mini-Micro and Ultra-Temp wall panels, providing the finishing touches to the building envelope.
Energy efficiency and sustainability were important drivers in the selection of Kingspan panels for the industrial building. The Trapezoidal roof and Mini Micro panels installed on this project can achieve a Green Guide A+ rating, helping reduce business operation costs significantly and enhance sustainability measures.
The Perth-based firm, T&Z Architects was charged with sourcing the high performing materials for the new facility. The Trapezoidal roof, Mini Micro and Ultra-Temp panels, as well as the insulated gutters, can all be integrated to create one complete building solution. This compatibility enabled total freedom at the design level for the architects. Kingspan worked closely with the firm to select panels that suited the requirements of the design brief and fully matched the vision of the project.
