Several products from the Kooltherm insulation range by Kingspan Insulation were specified for the prestigious Sydney International Convention Centre (ICC) project. Kingspan Kooltherm insulation products were tasked with maintaining a consistent building temperature in accordance with NCC/BCA Section J requirements under all conditions.
Situated in the Darling Harbour precinct, the new $1.5 billion Sydney International Convention Centre features an impressive façade, a grand ballroom, and an 8,000-seat red carpet theatre. The internal exhibition area has a capacity of 35,000m², an open-air event deck of 5,000m², and 8,000m² of meeting space.
Designed to host multiple conferences and trade exhibitions concurrently, the Sydney ICC called for the installation of quality building materials, particularly high-performance insulation products. Guaranteed thermal performance was critical for maintaining optimal internal temperatures for high-capacity events at all hours of the day and night, and across all seasons.
Project Architects Hassell and Populous along with head contractor Lendlease used Kingspan Kooltherm insulation for the entire project.
Kooltherm K10 PLUS soffit boards were installed in the interior of the building and throughout the carpark area; Kooltherm K17 insulated plasterboard was used extensively throughout the project; and Kooltherm K8 cavity boards were installed within the double block wall. The entire project used about 7,000m² of Kingspan Insulation products throughout the complex.
All specified Kingspan products assisted the project in achieving the ICC’s stellar demands of performance, resilience and reliability.
