Knauf  Plasterboard Australia has been selected as a partner for the New Zealand Government in the rebuild of Christchurch.

The contract is considered as a win-win opportunity for all stakeholders including Knauf, the New Zealand Government and local customers who will now have access to an affordable range and wider choice of plasterboard products from Australia, together with an international portfolio of speciality products that have previously not been sold in New Zealand.

The tender win coincides with Knauf's long-term plans to establish business in New Zealand with the company looking forward to partnering with local merchants, architects, contractors and builders.

According to Mark Norris, Managing Director, Knauf Plasterboard, Australia, the redevelopment of Christchurch together with Knauf’s roll-out in various cities across New Zealand in 2013 will showcase the company’s range of products and solutions while increasing housing affordability and creating jobs locally.

Knauf's entry into New Zealand will help address the lack of competition for building materials that was identified in the Productivity Commissions report, with the increased competition and choice benefitting local consumers.
