The Laminex Group has become the first product manufacturer in Australia to have its products supported by Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).
The company’s Greenfirst range of surface and wood panels is made of Laminex Vertiboard, Laminex Decorwood, Laminex Structural MR, Laminex compact laminates and a collection of edgings.
Robert Frazer, Laminex Group marketing manager, told BPN the constituents of the company’s products made it easy for them to qualify as green. However now that they have a Green Star rating architects, designers and furniture manufacturers will be able to specify them for commercial projects seeking to be accredited as a green building.
“Until now, creating ecologically sustainable (ESD) buildings has often been a costly process,” says Frazer. “The Greenfirst range addresses those problems by creating commercially viable products that make it easy for specifiers to achieve Green Star ratings without losing any of their creative design flexibility.”
Once the GBCA releases its residential rating tool, which according to Maria Atkinson, ceo of the council, should be sometime next year, Laminex Greenfirst products will help domestic residences qualify for ESD status.
